Winchester Model 1886 Rifle With Set Trigger Second Year Production ITEM 3340

Item Number 3340 Category

This Winchester was produced in 1887. The rifle’s serial number is 34121. This Winchester is chambered for the 40-65 W.C.F. The bore is in very fine bright condition. The octagonal barrel has the appearance of a heavy barrel. The underside of this barrel has a curved cut recess to accommodate the magazine tube. The Winchester research letter however does not mention this barrel being a heavy barrel. The research letter does mention the set trigger and octagonal full length barrel and being a 40-65 W.C.F. chambering. The barrel has about 60% of the original finish intact. The sights are original to this Winchester. The receiver is in silvery condition. There are some traces of color cased finish in protected areas. The stock and forend have no damage or chips. This wood still has all of the factory finish intact. This set trigger does work and can be set. The set spring does not have the strength anymore to trip the sear. This is a very nice condition Winchester Model 1886 in one of the more collectable chamberings. Being a second year production is also a big plus! I do think this rifle is an original heavy barrel. There has been times that the person doing the ledgers forget to mention special features. This may be one of those times. This rifle would be a prized addition to any fine Winchester Collection!
