This Colt National Match was produced in 1939. The pistol’s serial number is C 197343. This 45 A.C.P. National Match pistol has the correct MB in a circle stamped on the left side barrel lug. It also has the Colt 45 Auto Match stamped under the left side of the barrel above the barrel lug. The bore is in very fine condition. This pistol is also fitted with the rare Swartz safety device. The Swartz safety is fully functional and works correctly. This Colt also has the correct time period King windage adjustable rear sight. The King Sight was well known and was fitted to many models of the Colt line up as well as being fitted to other makers such as Smith & Wesson.  Adjustable rear sight was seldom seen on  these National Match pistols. This pistol is one of these pistols that has the adjustable sight. There were about 1475 of these sights fitted to the pre war National Match pistols!  The total production of these pre war National Match pistols was 4813 pistols! Of those National Match Pistols less than 1200 of these pistols were fitted with the Swartz safety. This production number of these Swartz Safety pistols was figured out by the well known author of the Colt 1911 and A1’s, Charles Clawson. This makes this Colt quite Rare! This Colt has the matching serial numbered slide. The serial number is stamped inside the firing pin chamber. The original bluing would rate a 85% or better condition. Most of the blue loss is by the grip frame. This magazine is the correct all blued magazine for this pistol with the Colt 45 Auto stamped on the magazine floor plate. The wood grips are original to this Colt. The grips are in fine condition. The checkering is sharp with high points. There is no cracks or other damage to these grips. These early National Match pistols had hand honed actions and carefully fitted parts. The workmanship was of the best Colt had to offer. This is a very fine rare Colt for the discerning collector to acquire for their collection!
