This Carbine was produced around 1863 to 1864. This Ballard carbine’s Serial number is 5565. It is chambered to shoot the 44 extra long rimfire cartridge, It will also shoot the 44 Henry cartridge. This Ballard model was made by Ball & Williams Of Worcester Massachusetts. The bore is in very fine minty looking condition. This carbine is in fine original condition. The sights are original to this carbine. The manual ejector works fine. The receiver has traces of the original bluing. The barrel has most of the original finish intact. The action works smoothly with no issues. There is no cracks or wood damage to the stock and forend. There is no government inspector stamps or issue stamps present. There is some information that some of these carbines were issued to cavalry units during the war. This is a very interesting Civil War era carbine for the Civil War collector! Finding one of these carbines in this nice of condition is a true find!
