Winchester Model 1873 Rifle In 38 W.C.F. 1880’s Production ITEM 3246

Item Number 3246 Category

This Winchester was produced in 1888. The rifle’s serial number is 269255. This rifle has the standard 24 inch round barrel chambered to shoot the 38 W.C.F. [38-40]. This barrel has sharp lands and a very fine bright bore. This barrel is also a replacement and installed by Winchester. The barrel and top of the receiver have the Winchester proof mark. Those proof marks were not used until much latter in production. Also the barrel chambering is on the side of the barrel and not on top for the 1880’s time frame if they marked the barrels. The action works fine with no issues. The barrel and magazine tube retain most of the original bluing. The receiver is mostly brown patina with traces of bluing in protected places. The stock and forend have no cracks or damage to the wood. The stock itself has some nice figuring to the wood. The screws are not damaged or buggered. This is a nice honest used Winchester that has not been abused or worn out. There is no cleaning rod set in the stock compartment.
